Appreciation post: Heard a talk about AI finding new materials and it got me thinking

I was listening to a podcast on my drive yesterday, and a researcher from Stanford was talking about how their AI system found a new type of battery material in under a week. They said it would have taken years the old way. It just hit me how this isn't just about making chatbots smarter, it's about speeding up real science for stuff we need. Has anyone else seen other cool examples of AI doing this kind of discovery work?

Whoa, that's wild. I always figured AI was just for writing emails or making weird art. But finding a new battery material that fast? That's a game changer. It makes me wonder what else is out there waiting to be found. Stuff like new medicines or stronger building materials. This actually makes me hopeful about the tech for once.

My cousin's lab used a similar AI to find a cheaper solar panel coating last year.
