Appreciation post: That one harsh critique about my AI chatlogs

Back in 2022 I was building a little chatbot for a local bakery in Austin. I thought my conversation flows were genius until a beta tester said my bot sounded like a 'robotic used car salesman.' Stung at first. But she was right, I was loading every response with too many options and selling language. I stepped back and rewrote the whole thing to just mirror how people actually talk at a counter. Short replies, no pressure, just 'here is what we got.' Cut the response time in half and orders went up 30 percent. Has anyone else had a tester or client totally reshape how you design your AI prompts?

That critique about the robotic used car salesman is pretty specific. Did you end up keeping any of the original structure or did you scrap it completely?

Huh, wonder if that robotic pitch was actually better for a different kind of customer though. Like, what if the used car salesman tone would have crushed it for a high-pressure catering menu or a late-night drunk order?
