Can we talk about when AI translation tools completely bungled a client meeting?
I was in a video call last month with a potential client from Japan, using a popular AI translation plugin to help with real-time captions. Everything was going fine until they mentioned a specific deadline in late December, and the AI translated it as 'next Tuesday' in February. I caught it because I know a bit of Japanese, but I felt my face go red realizing how much could have gone wrong. The client was polite but I could tell they noticed the pause. I ended up turning off the plugin and just doing my best with basic phrases for the rest of the call. We still got the contract but it made me wonder how many meetings this happens in without anyone catching it. Has anyone else had an AI translation tool mess up something important in a live situation?

Oh man, that reminds me of the time an AI subtitler turned a cooking demo into instructions for building furniture. The chef was talking about folding dumplings and it kept saying "screw the top piece" over and over.

And I bet my Ikea furniture still came out better than that dumpling recipe.
