Debate: Is AI art actually innovative or just an advanced filter? I think people confuse novelty with creativity.
I keep seeing folks call Midjourney outputs groundbreaking, but to me it feels more like a supercharged version of the old Instagram filters we used 10 years ago. Am I wrong to think real innovation means solving problems, not just generating pictures that look cool? What's your take?

Wait, are you saying comparing Midjourney to a vintage Instagram filter is a serious take and not just a joke? Because that feels like saying a calculator is the same as counting on your fingers since they both give you numbers. Those filters were one-size-fits-all, but these tools can actually respond to complex prompts and create something that didn't exist before, even if the result is still just a pretty picture.

Gotta push back a little on the "didn't exist before" part. Like, most of what these models do is remix existing art and styles from their training data, they're not really inventing new visual concepts from scratch. It's more like a really advanced collage machine than true creation.
