Hot take: AI writing tools make my emails worse, not better
I used to write all my client follow-ups by hand for 5 years, but after trying 3 different AI assistants this spring I keep getting replies asking if I'm okay or if someone hacked my account. Has anyone else found these tools strip out your actual voice no matter how much you tweak the settings?

Did you try feeding the AI some of your old emails as examples? I spent a week fighting with one tool until I just copy-pasted like 15 of my best replies into a document and told it to use those as a template. It still needs cleanup but now it's more like having a clumsy assistant who gets the vibe right even if the phrasing is a bit off. The key for me was keeping the first draft short and adding back my weird little phrases in the second pass. Maybe it's just me but I think these tools work better if you treat them like a rough draft machine instead of expecting them to sound like you right out of the gate.

Asked if you're okay or if someone hacked your account" is brutal, I'm sorry but that's honestly hilarious. My favorite part is when the AI writes something I'd never say in a million years and I have to pretend it's fine. At this point my clients probably think I'm having a midlife crisis and outsourcing my personality.
