My AI drawing tool gave me 3 extra fingers and I almost kept it
I was messing with Stable Diffusion for a character design last night. The hands were all messed up, 6 fingers on one side. But the lighting and pose were perfect. I spent 20 minutes trying to fix it in Photoshop before I just regenerated and got a clean version in 2 tries. Learned that spending too long fixing a bad AI output is a waste. Better to just tweak the prompt and start over. Anyone else get attached to a broken AI image and try way too hard to save it?

The weird thing is those extra fingers actually helped me notice something about composition. I was staring at a mangled hand for so long that I started seeing how the broken anatomy created this unintentional focal point that drew the eye exactly where it needed to go. Fixed the hand, lost the impact. There's this sweet spot with AI where the imperfections force you to think differently about what makes an image work, but you can't really replicate that once you clean it up. Kind of like how a typo in a song lyric can make you actually hear the words instead of just humming along.

Jump right into that feeling because it's actually a thing I've noticed with a lot of stuff in life, not just AI art. It's like when you buy a used car that has a weird dent but drives perfectly, or when you're trying to cook something and you mess up a step but it somehow tastes better. Those little flaws force you to stop and actually look at what you're doing instead of just going through the motions. I think we're so trained to want everything perfect and clean that we forget how much character and meaning can come from the broken parts. It's the same reason why people love old vinyl records with pops and scratches, or handwritten notes with coffee stains. Maybe we need those imperfections to keep things from feeling too fake or too polished, you know?
