Took me 3 days to figure out why my AI image gen kept giving me weird hands

I was running Stable Diffusion locally and kept getting these twisted finger monstrosities no matter what prompt I used. Thought it was a model issue, so I spent a whole Saturday downloading and testing 15 different checkpoints. Finally on day 3 I realized my VAE file was corrupted and it had been silently messing up all my outputs. Has anyone else spent way too long tracking down a single broken config file?
