Tried running a local Llama 3 model on my old gaming PC and it just bricked the whole system

I was trying to run the new Llama 3 8B model locally last week, thinking my PC with 16GB of RAM could handle it. The whole thing just froze up completely, and I had to do a hard reboot. Has anyone else had a local model crash their machine this bad, and what specs do you really need to avoid this?

Did you check your GPU memory before trying that?
