Appreciation post: I went against the grain and stopped preheating my air fryer for frozen foods

Everyone online says you must preheat for everything, but I tried skipping it with a bag of Alexia sweet potato fries last week and they came out crispier and cooked more evenly. My theory is the cold start lets the outside heat up with the inside instead of shocking it. Has anyone else tested this with different frozen items?

Whoa, this is actually blowing my mind a little. I was totally a preheat-everything person, like it was a religion. But I tried your method with some frozen chicken nuggets last night because I was feeling lazy. Honestly, they were way better. The breading didn't get that weird hard shell while the inside was still cold. I'm gonna try it with tater tots next.

That weird hard shell thing is exactly what I hate... gonna have to try skipping the preheat now.
