I finally gave up on frozen fries in the air fryer

For years I just dumped the bag straight in, but last week I tried soaking them in cold water for 30 minutes first, then drying them super well. The difference was crazy. The soaked ones came out way crispier and more like real restaurant fries, not soggy at all. I think getting rid of the extra starch is the key. Has anyone else tried this trick, or do you have a better method for perfect fries?

Oh man, have I been down this same road? I used to just toss frozen fries in the air fryer and pray, and I always ended up with half-soggy, half-burnt results. Then I saw some random video online suggesting the soak and dry method, and I'll be honest, I thought it was nonsense. But I tried it with a bag of crinkle cuts last week, and it totally changed the game for me. For drying, I just spread them out on a clean kitchen towel and pat them dry in batches, takes like two minutes and saves a ton of paper towels.

Wait, you have to dry them after soaking? That sounds like a lot of extra work. How do you dry them without making a huge mess, just a ton of paper towels?

Right? It's the worst part.
