My $12 thrift store air fryer made better wings than my $180 one, and I'm not happy about it
I know everyone says you need a fancy air fryer with digital presets, but I grabbed a basic one at a thrift shop in Mesa for $12 last month just to have a backup. The wings came out with crispy skin in 18 minutes while my $180 one takes 24 minutes and always leaves the middle a little rubbery. I've done side by side tests three times now with the same seasoning and same 8 wings each, and the cheap one wins every time. The only thing the expensive one does better is look nice on my counter. Maybe the simpler airflow design just works better without all the extra sensors getting in the way. I feel silly for spending that much money when a used one from a garage sale does the job. Has anyone else gone back to a basic air fryer after using a fancy one?
So the $180 one just exists to look pretty on your counter and take an extra 6 minutes to make worse wings, that is a ROUGH deal. I had the same thing happen with a cheap rice cooker I got at a garage sale, it beat the fancy one my sister bought me for Christmas. My guess is all those sensors and presets are just guessing wrong and the simple ones just blast heat the way they should. You basically paid $168 extra for a shiny box that has OPINIONS about your chicken. I would be mad too, but hey, now you have a backup that actually works better, so that $12 was a steal.
