My air fryer basket shattered after 6 months of use

I bought this fancy ceramic-coated basket in March, thought it would be tougher than the non-stick stuff. Last Tuesday I was shaking out some frozen fries and the whole thing cracked in my hands, sharp pieces everywhere. Now I'm back to using the basic wire rack insert that came with my unit, but it's just not the same for crispy results. Anyone else had bad luck with these coated accessories?

That ceramic coating sounds like it was more brittle than they let on. Did you drop or bang it against anything before that, or did it just give out from the shaking? Some of those coatings look great but can't handle the heat cycling long term. Could be a factory defect too, but six months is still really short for something that should last years.

My buddy @campbell.david has a point about heat cycling. I see this same thing happen with cookware too, spend a hundred bucks on a nonstick pan and it's flaking in a year. Feels like companies push these cool new coatings but skip the long term testing, then act surprised when they fail. Six months is way too short for something that's supposed to be tough, makes me wonder if they're just using a cheap base layer under that ceramic.
