To preheat or not to preheat the air fryer before tossing in frozen chicken wings?

My air fryer basket handle snapped off last Tuesday after 8 months of use, right when I was shaking a batch of wings at 400 degrees. I ended up using oven mitts to finish the cook, but the wings came out uneven because the handle broke mid shake. Is it worth buying a replacement basket from the same brand for $25, or should I just switch to a different model altogether?
