Unpopular opinion: a little smoke in the kitchen is a learning moment

I was trying to make frozen french fries in my new air fryer last night and I didn't shake the basket enough. A few pieces got totally stuck and started smoking after about 12 minutes. I just unplugged it, let it cool on the balcony, and scraped the burnt bits out with a wooden spoon. Has anyone else had a first-time smoke scare, and what's your go-to method for keeping things from sticking?

Honestly, a tiny spritz of oil on the fries before cooking stops that sticking nightmare completely.

@elizabeth_jackson that's a good tip but honestly the real game changer is tossing your fries in cornstarch before you oil them. gives them that crispy restaurant texture without the smoke.

Wait, what kind of oil do you use for that? I've tried a couple and they just smoke up my whole kitchen.
