Just learned that turbine blades are technically single-use parts, blew my mind

I was reading through some GE engine manuals during my break yesterday and found out that turbine blades in jet engines are considered single-use components. Once they're installed and run through a cycle, they can't be reused even if they look perfectly fine. The thermal stresses change the metal grain structure at a microscopic level, so the FAA mandates replacement after a set number of flights. A single blade for a CFM56 costs around $3,000 and there's like 70 of them in a stage. Has anyone else here dealt with turbine blade replacement and seen the actual cost difference between new vs. refurbished ones?

The CFM56 is a workhorse engine. I've seen the replacement cost for a full set of blades on one stage, and it's enough to buy a decent house in most places. The refurbished ones exist but the inspection process is brutal and the savings aren't always worth the headache for the airlines.
