MIL-SPEC wire isn't actually MIL-SPEC, found that out the hard way
I was doing a bundle replacement on a Cessna 172 at our shop near Bakersfield and the replacement harness I ordered had 'MIL-SPEC' stamped on the jacket. Turns out it was just a marketing label, the wire gauge was 20 AWG but the insulation was thinner than the real spec from the M22759 standards. I only caught it because I checked the printout against the actual part number, and the resistance measured way off. Has anyone else gotten burned by lookalike certified parts from online suppliers?

That resistance reading being off is what gets me, that's not something you can just eyeball on the bench and it could've flown if you hadn't caught it. I've seen cheap knockoff parts behave fine in the static tests and then fail under heat or vibration, which is exactly when you can't do anything about it. Good on you for pulling the printout, most guys I know wouldn't have bothered and that's a scary thought.
