My lead told me I was torquing bolts wrong for 2 years
Honestly, I was using the click-type torque wrench like a breaker bar, just cranking until it clicked hard. Last month my lead saw me and said 'you're overshooting every bolt by 20 ft-lbs, you gotta go slow and stop at the first click.' Changed my whole routine after that. Anyone else get caught doing something basic the wrong way for way too long?

Wait you were just cranking past the click? That's wild man I always thought the click was the stop sign not a starting line.

People get way too deep into this stuff... it's just a shift knob, not a life philosophy. All this talk about "respecting the mechanical limits" and "listening to the machine" like you're meditating with the gearbox or something. Sometimes you just want to row through the gears without turning it into a whole spiritual journey.
