PSA: I spent $150 on a 'universal' gear puller that just snapped on a simple Cessna nose wheel bearing job.

Has anyone found a brand that actually holds up for more than one stubborn part?

Grabbed a used OTC puller from a pawn shop years ago. That old American steel has never let me down, even on rusted truck hubs. The jaws are just thicker, and the forcing screw feels solid.

Why does everything feel cheap now?

and honestly I kind of disagree with where you're coming from. Maybe it's just what you're buying (like that cheap plastic stuff at big box stores). I grabbed a cast iron skillet at a garage sale for five bucks last month, thing is probably fifty years old and still works better than anything new from the store. Same with my dad's old socket set from the 80s, the ratchet still clicks smooth as butter. It's not that everything is cheap now, it's that the cheap stuff is more available than ever and people forget there's still good quality out there if you hunt for it.
