PSA: That $40 cockpit cover from Amazon is gonna cost you way more
I bought one of those cheap nylon covers for my Cessna 172 last spring thinking it would save a few bucks... big mistake. After three months of sitting outside at my local field in Bakersfield, the fabric started breaking down in the sun and left scratches all over my windshield. Had to pay a guy $200 to buff them out and replace the seal where the cover rubbed raw. The cheap one also didn't have proper vents so moisture got trapped and started molding the panel. Anyone else have a horror story with bargain covers?

Well shoot, that sounds like a tough break but I gotta wonder if you just got a real lemon... I've had a cheap cover on my old pickup for two years now and it's still holding up fine through the California sun and some rain. Maybe it's the specific brand you picked or the way you put it on? I've seen guys at the hangar toss a tarp over their planes for months with no issue, just gotta make sure it breathes a little. The scratches and mold seem like more of a bad fit problem than a price problem to me. Could be you just had bad luck with that one cover.

Honestly, I was on your side until my third cheap cover in two years turned into a moldy mess. I thought the whole "you get what you pay for" thing was just people trying to justify spending too much, but now I'm not so sure. When a tarp works better than a purpose-built cover, something has to give, right?
