Spent $400 on a borescope that paid for itself in one hangar visit
I bought a cheap borescope off Amazon for 400 bucks to inspect exhaust baffles on a Cessna 172, and it caught a crack I would've missed until it caused a fire. Some guys at my line say you're wasting money on tools you don't need daily, but I figure it's saved me from a major headache already. What's everyone else's take - do you splurge on specialty gear or stick with the basics and just look harder?

Man that's a solid investment right there. I had a similar thing happen with a cheap borescope I picked up, found a crack in an exhaust pipe on an old King Air that nobody caught during a regular walkaround. Saved the owner a ton of money and probably a lot worse. People who say stick with basics haven't had a small crack turn into a big problem yet.

Does that work for the aluminum frame cracks too or just exhaust?
