The trick with the zip tie on a stripped screw head

I was doing a gear retraction check on a King Air last Thursday and the access panel screw was totally rounded out. My lead said to order a new panel, which would take two days. Instead, I cut a small piece of a heavy duty zip tie, jammed it into the screw head with a flathead, and pushed down hard while turning. It grabbed just enough to break it loose. Saved a huge delay and a $300 part. Anyone got a better method for those Phillips heads that turn into circles?

Man, that feeling when you finally get a stripped screw to move is the best. I've spent whole afternoons on one screw before.

Wait, $300 for a panel? That's insane, I've seen them way cheaper at surplus shops. And @sageallen is right about that feeling when it finally breaks free.

My buddy did that with a rubber band once.
