Tried a new solvent on a stubborn control cable and it worked better than I expected

I was cleaning a rusted control cable on a Cessna 172 at work yesterday and used LPS 3 instead of the usual WD-40. It cut through the gunk in about 5 minutes flat and the cable moved smooth after. Has anyone else had good luck with LPS 3 on stuff like this or is it just me?

I read somewhere that LPS 3 was originally designed for the Navy to protect shipboard equipment from salt corrosion. It makes sense it would work well on a stubborn control cable.

Funny how the best stuff starts out for the military, then ends up in our garages...
