Tried RTV on a oil filter housing gasket, almost cost me a whole weekend
Last Saturday I was swapping an oil filter housing on a 2013 Camry and figured I'd use a dab of RTV on the new gasket to be safe. Big mistake. The RTV squeezed out inside and blocked the oil passage. Took me 4 hours to figure out why the engine was clattering. Anyone else have a lesson learned from using too much sealant somewhere it didn't belong?

Ngl, that RTV almost turned your Camry into a paperweight.

Figured nobody would mention how Toyota's own service manual specifies a specific RTV type for that particular surface finish though. That's where most people screw it up, right there.
