Vent: Overheard a pilot at the FBO complaining about a 'lazy' preflight check

Was grabbing coffee at the FBO in Daytona last week. A pilot was telling his buddy he just signed off a plane after a 'two-minute walkaround'. He called it lazy. Made me think. I've seen rushed checks before. A proper preflight on a Cessna 172 should take at least 15 minutes, right? What's the fastest you've ever seen someone try to cut corners on a visual inspection?

That "two-minute walkaround" comment is scary. I watched a guy at my local field basically just kick the tires and yank on one aileron before hopping in a Cherokee. Didn't even pull the fuel sample. It's wild how people treat a checklist like a suggestion.

Ever think about the mechanic who has to fix what a rushed check misses? That's the real cost, and it backs up what @park.riley said about arrogance. You're making extra work for someone else down the line, not just risking your own skin.

Man, that's nuts. @haydenj90 is right, it's a suggestion to some people. What gets me is the mindset. A rushed check isn't just lazy, it's arrogant. You're basically betting nothing changed since the last flight, betting your life and anyone else's on a feeling. That two-minute walkaround means he didn't really look at anything. Oil cap could be loose, a bird could've nested overnight... you just don't know.
