Pro tip: battery backup screw trick saved a rewire job

Was swapping out an old panel in a clinic outside Reno last Thursday and the battery backup kept tripping the siren during testing. Customer was already pissed about the noise and I had maybe 20 minutes to figure it out. Tried replacing the battery, checked the voltage, even swapped the panel board, nothing. Then I noticed the backup wires had corrosion where they screw into the terminals, so I hit them with a wire brush and re-tightened with a dab of dielectric grease. That fixed it instantly, no more false triggers. Feels dumb that something so simple caused a full hour of headache. Anyone else run into corrosion on those terminal posts that looks fine until you actually scrape it off?

Hit the same thing on a security panel at a truck stop diner. Terminals looked clean from the outside but once I pulled the wires off there was this green crust under the screw head. Wire brush and some contact cleaner sorted it in minutes. Grease is smart though, keeps moisture out of the connection. I carry a tube in my tool bag now just for that. Always check the screw post before you start swapping parts.
