Saw a weird alarm panel setup at a hotel in Omaha
I was staying at a hotel in Omaha last month and noticed their main alarm panel was just sitting on a shelf in the unlocked office. No enclosure, no lock, just the keypad and board out in the open. The wiring was a total mess, with a bunch of unlabeled zone wires hanging loose. I couldn't believe a commercial spot would leave it so exposed. Has anyone else run into a setup that bad at a business?

Man, that's nothing. My buddy does HVAC and walked into a small town bank to fix their AC. Their entire security system brain was in a janitor's closet, propped up on an old paint can. The backup battery was just sitting on the floor, not even connected. He said a good sneeze could have knocked the whole thing over and killed the power. They had no idea.

Honestly, the scariest part isn't even the mess. It's that any guest or worker could just walk up and disconnect a zone wire by accident. The whole system could be down for days before anyone noticed a door or window wasn't armed. That's a huge liability hole they probably never even thought about. Their insurance would have a fit if they saw that setup.

That liability hole reminds me of a gas station I saw with their whole camera DVR just sitting on the counter.
