That time a loose hinge pin cost me a full service call in Boise

Went out last Thursday to a residential rekey and panel swap, customer said the keypad kept going into trouble mode. I checked the panel, battery, even the transformer voltage, all fine. Turned out the door contact was mounted on a hinge that had maybe a quarter inch of play. Every time the door closed, the magnet shifted just enough to trip the zone. I burned a whole hour before I thought to wiggle the hinge. I mean, it seems dumb now but who checks the mechanical mounting first? I always start with the electrical side. Now I'm thinking I should tape a printed checklist to my meter case for basic stuff like loose hardware. Has anyone else had a simple mechanical issue that looked like an electrical fault? I'd be curious how often that happens to other installers.
