Unpopular opinion: splurging on that $200 cellular dialer backup wasn't worth it when a cheap $40 landline module worked fine for 3 years till my area lost copper lines last Tuesday.

I wasted $160 extra on a 4G communicator for a residential install in Phoenix that honestly never even triggered a false alarm, and now I'm wondering if anyone else skipped the expensive upgrade and regretted it when the phone lines went dead.

Feel for you man, that's a rough one. I did the same thing with a 4G unit on a vacation rental install last year, thought I was future-proofing it but the property ended up with fiber before copper even went dead lol. That extra cash stings when you realize the cheap module could've done the job for years longer. It's just one of those calls that looks smart on paper but bites you in the wallet later.
