Why do so many installers still put the keypad right next to the front door lock?
I was on a service call in Tulsa last Tuesday and the homeowner pointed out something I had stopped noticing years ago. The keypad was mounted maybe 8 inches from the deadbolt, so a burglar could just smash the glass, reach in, and have a full 30 seconds to punch in a code they watched you type from the street. I moved it around the corner into the hallway and she told me her last two installers both said that spot was standard. Curious if anyone else here has a rule for keypad placement or do you just go where the old one was?
Tulsa homeowners keep telling me the same thing, and 8 inches from the deadbolt is just lazy. Move that keypad around the corner or you're basically handing out the code.
