Can we talk about the guy who said foundation cracks are normal and then his basement flooded 2 weeks later?

Overheard some know-it-all at the hardware store in Red Deer telling a new homeowner that a 3mm crack in the foundation was no big deal, and I just got a text from my buddy whose neighbor lost $12,000 in water damage after following that exact advice, so what’s the real threshold for when a crack actually needs fixing?

Ray324 I saw on a home inspection channel that dark humor about foundation cracks is usually a sign you've got actual water issues. A guy in that video said if your basement smells like a public pool after a joke like that, it's time to check the grading around your house. Makes me wonder if the punchline landed harder than you expected in more ways than one.
