Just spent 6 weeks fighting the county over a simple fence permit

I thought putting up a 6 foot privacy fence on my own property in Lethbridge would take a weekend. Turned out the setback rules changed in 2022 and nobody told me. After 3 resubmissions and a $150 survey fee I finally got the green light. The actual fence went up in 2 days but the paperwork ate my whole summer. Anyone else dealt with municipal bylaw changes that came out of nowhere?

Country living you know? I swear my fence is worth more per inch than the house at this point with all the hoops I jumped through. $150 survey and 3 resubmissions sounds like a bargain compared to the neighbor who got slapped with a demolition order for a 5 inch setback violation last summer. Did you at least get a nice tan from standing in the permit office line for those six weeks or was it just me?

@elliotjenkins it's wild how much red tape shows up in places you'd think would be simpler.
