My HVAC guy told me I was choking my furnace by keeping the filter too clean
He said those MERV 13 filters are actually too restrictive for most standard residential units in Calgary and I should switch to a MERV 8, now my system runs quieter and my energy bill dropped $22 last month.

Man that "choking your furnace" line really makes you think twice about what they told us about those high MERV filters.

Buddy of mine slapped a MERV 13 in his Lennox last winter without checking the manual. Furnace ran fine for a month then started short-cycling like crazy. His neighbor who works HVAC told him the motor was pulling too hard against that filter and cooking itself. Swapped back to a MERV 8 and it ran smooth again. Pays to listen to the guys who actually clean the blower wheels.
