Question about helping a new neighbour with their furnace over the holidays
A lady two doors down knocked on my door last December because her furnace quit on the coldest night. I spent about 20 minutes showing her how to reset the pilot light on her old Carrier unit. Has anyone else had a random neighbour ask for help with something like that?

Carrier pilot lights go out all the time, it's probably not that big a deal.

Oh man, that reminds me of a time my old neighbor's furnace went out in the middle of January. @benlewis is probably right that it's no big deal for most people, but our neighbor had to camp out at my place for three days while the repair guy kept flaking on him. He finally got it fixed with a new thermocouple for like 20 bucks. Have you ever had to wait on a repair person like that?
