Stood in my own backyard for 20 minutes trying to figure out why my sump pump kept kicking on every 90 seconds

Last week after that heavy rain we had in Calgary, I finally timed it. My sump pump was running every 90 seconds for a full 10 seconds each time. Called a plumber out and turns out my downspout extensions were dumping water right against the foundation. Guy said half the houses in my neighborhood have the same issue. Cost me 40 bucks for new downspout parts and now it runs maybe twice a day. Anyone else had their sump pump going crazy after a storm and found it was something simple like this?

Damn, 40 bucks is a steal for that fix.

Is your buddy the one who charged you 40 bucks? Cause if so, that's a good friend right there. Most shops would have tacked on a diagnostic fee and parts markup that would have tripled that easy. I hope you bought him a beer or something.
