Switched from paying a lawn service to doing it myself this spring
I was paying $180 a month for mowing and edging here in Lethbridge, but after the last rate hike I bought a used riding mower for $600 and it's already paid for itself. Has anyone else made the switch and found it worth the time?

Nice deal on the mower. $600 is a steal compared to paying out $180 every month. I did the same last summer. Bought a beat up Husqvarna for $400. Fixed the deck belt myself. Now I just burn a Saturday morning every two weeks. Way better than writing a check every damn month.

You fixed the deck belt yourself? Man, that's the part that would have me cussing up a storm for three hours and then just giving up and calling the shop. I tried fixing a belt on my old Craftsman once and ended up with the spring shooting across the garage and denting my truck door. Never again. I pay the $60 for the shop to do it now, which still beats the $180 a month for a service. But seriously, good on you for having the patience for that. That mower must be a tank if you got it running for that cheap.
