The plumber who told me to skip the expensive water softener

Had a guy from Cochrane come out after my hot water tank started acting up last winter. He took one look at my brand new water softener setup and just shook his head. Said I wasted $800 on something I didn't need because my water hardness tests were actually fine from the city supply, it was just a clog in the inlet valve. Ever had a tradesperson talk you out of spending more money?

Oh please, you actually believed a plumber who wants you to keep dealing with hard water buildup just so he can come back and unclog your stuff again? Even borderline hard water will wreck faucets and shower heads over time, a softener is cheap insurance.
