TIL you don't actually need to insulate your garage ceiling in Alberta winters
Been fighting ice dams on my garage roof for 3 winters straight. Tried adding more attic insulation, better vents, the whole works. My neighbor who's been a framer for 30 years finally told me to just leave the garage ceiling uninsulated and let the heat from the house leak up there. Said it keeps the roof warm enough to stop snow from melting and refreezing. Tried it this November and my garage roof is the only one on the block without icicles. Anyone else find that counterintuitive fixes work better than the textbook approach?

Only one on the block without icicles" - that's a pretty bold claim. You sure your neighbors just have better gutters or something?
