Solidarity, friend. Sump pumps are basically house ninjas that only get noticed when they fail.

Not to rain on the parade, @wendygrant, but sump pumps are just noisy basement fans that cost money to install and break at the worst times. House ninjas don't wake you up at 3 AM with a clanking racket. If anything, they're more like that one friend who only shows up when the party's already ruined, then demands payment for their "service." Let's be real, half the time the pump fails because the power goes out during the storm, so you're still bailing water with a bucket. I'll take a silent brick wall over a fancy pump any day.
