Best week I've had in ages was finally fixing my swamp cooler
Last Wednesday I swapped out the old belt and bearings on my Mastercool unit near Juan Tabo. It was making this horrible squeal for two weeks straight and I finally got around to it. The whole job cost me like $22 from Grainger and it runs quieter than ever now. Has anyone else dealt with that weird vibration from an unbalanced squirrel cage?

OH COME ON now I gotta push back on that. Swapping bearings and a belt is one thing but messing with that squirrel cage balance is a whole different can of worms. I tried that once on my old unit and ended up making the vibration WORSE because I didn't have the right tools to measure the wobble. You might get lucky if it's just a little bit off but if that cage is bent or caked with dust it's gonna be a headache you don't want. Better to just clean the blades super good with a brush first and see if that stops the shimmy.
