Chatted with a plumber about my water heater and now I'm changing my whole setup

I was talking to a guy named Ed from Ed's Plumbing on Central last week after he fixed a leak. He told me most people set their water heaters at 140 degrees but 120 is plenty and saves like 10-15% on energy bills. It hit me that I've been wasting power for years without thinking about it. Has anyone else dropped their temp and seen a real drop in their gas bill?

Ed from Ed's Plumbing sounds like a straight shooter. I lowered mine to 120 a couple years ago after my cousin in Seattle told me he'd been doing it forever. It got me thinking about how many things we just set once and never question, like our fridge temps or our thermostat schedules. My gas bill dropped about 12 bucks a month, nothing massive but it adds up over a year.

My neighbor saved $15 a month after turning hers down to 120 too.
