Finally fixed the swamp cooler and my power bill dropped $62, should have done this years ago
My old swamp cooler was cranking all summer and my PNM bill hit $240 in July, which felt insane for a house that's only 1,400 square feet. I finally replaced the pads and sealed up a few gaps around the vent, and the difference was almost instant, the house actually cooled down in the afternoons instead of just getting humid. Last month's bill came in at $178 and it's the same heat as before. Turns out I was just blowing cool air straight into my attic for years. Anyone else find a cheap fix that made a bigger dent than they expected?
How bad were the old pads? Replacing mine was like night and day, that swampy smell alone was worth the 20 bucks. Cheap fixes always hit different when you see the bill drop.
