Got into it with a plumber about PEX versus copper at my last job

He spent 15 minutes telling me how PEX fittings fail way faster in our dry heat and showed me a cracked ring from a house built in 2019. I've always been team PEX for the ease but now I'm wondering if copper is worth the extra money for the long haul out here. Anyone else run into issues with PEX in the high desert?

Man, my buddy's PEX lines cracked open twice before he finally swapped to copper.

Hearing stories like that makes me wonder if it was a bad install or maybe cheap fittings. I've got PEX in my place for 8 years now, no problems at all. My uncle's a plumber and he says most failures come from using the wrong crimp rings or not securing it properly from UV light. Copper's great but if you're in a place with acidic water it'll pinhole just as fast. Maybe his buddy just got unlucky or cut corners somewhere.
