Had a cheap hose split on me during a big landscaping job in the North Valley
I was out back last Saturday trying to water some new grass and my $15 hose just burst right at the fitting. Water went everywhere, soaked my boots, and I had to shut off the whole spigot to stop it. Took me like 20 minutes to dig out a spare connector and patch it with some tape. Anyone else given up on those budget hoses from the big box stores?

Tape never holds long. Did you check if the fitting was the weak spot?

Oh man, you're not wrong there. Tape is basically just a band-aid for a problem that needs stitches. I swear I've seen more tape jobs fail than hold. But honestly in this case the fitting was definitely the weak spot. The threads were all chewed up, like someone cross-threaded it with a hammer. Taping that was just asking for trouble. Should've just replaced the whole fitting from the start.
