I finally got my swamp cooler pad frame replaced, but it took me a full Saturday and two trips to the hardware store.

Actually sounds like a pretty smooth project for a weekend! A full day and two hardware runs is basically the expected minimum for any home repair. Could have been way worse with missing parts or broken bolts.

That's a pretty low bar for success though, honestly. A weekend project shouldn't need two store trips to feel smooth.
