Just realized I patched 47 holes in one rental unit and the tenant paid me in cash
I was doing a turnover on a place near Central and Louisiana last month, and the previous renter must have hung everything they owned with 16 penny nails. By the time I got to the 47th drywall patch, I stopped counting and just started laughing. The landlord handed me $600 in twenties and said keep the change, which was weird because the job was only $480. Anyone else ever hit a repair number that was so dumb it turned funny?
47 patches is a lot but honestly the 16 penny nails are what get me, those things are like 3 inches long, what was that tenant hanging, a deer? Used to figure a dozen patches was just part of a normal turnover and you eat the cost. But seeing a landlord hand over 600 for a 480 job makes me think some of these guys actually get it. Maybe the extra was his way of saying sorry you had to deal with that mess. Either way that cash in twenties hits different than a check.
