My $650 swamp cooler install quote in Nob Hill taught me the real number nobody mentions
I got three quotes for replacing my old swamp cooler here in Albuquerque and the middle one came in at $650 for the unit plus install. What got me was the guy telling me that most of his callbacks in June and July are not from bad coolers at all. He said around 7 out of 10 service calls are just clogged pads and dirty water lines from our hard water, and he showed me the crust in my old pan to prove it. So instead of paying for a full swap I did a $60 pad and spider kit change plus a flush, and the thing started blowing cold again that same afternoon. Everyone on here says just replace it every 10 years, but nobody mentions that our water eats pads way faster than the cooler itself. Has anyone up in the heights tracked how often they really need new pads with our water, or am I the only one changing mine twice a season now?
