My attempt to repaint the living room ceiling turned into a total disaster

I was in the middle of rolling paint on my living room ceiling last weekend when the roller cover flew off and smacked right into a fresh patch of wet paint on the wall, leaving a big brown smear. Spent the next hour trying to clean it off with a damp sponge before just giving up and repainting the whole wall. Has anyone else had a tool just betray them like that mid-project?

Man, that stinks! Honestly, I've had a paint tray just completely tip over on me while I was stretching to reach a corner. Spilled a whole quart of gray paint all over the drop cloth and the edge of the carpet. Spent the next two days scrubbing the carpet fibers with a rag and some solvent. It's like the tools know when you're in a good rhythm just to mess with you. Tbh, I think these little disasters are just part of the painting experience, but it doesn't make it any less annoying when it happens.
