My neighbor's adobe wall collapse in the South Valley changed how I think about drainage

I was helping him patch a small crack in his back wall last spring when the whole 8-foot section just slumped over after a heavy rain. The ground was so wet it looked like chocolate pudding. Turns out his downspouts were dumping right at the base for years, and the clay soil just gave up. Now I check every gutter on my place and slope the dirt away from the foundation. Anyone else in the valley had to fix something because of our weird soil?

Chocolate pudding soil" is a perfect way to put it, and yeah, that'll change your mind fast.

Saw a video where someone actually tried to eat that stuff for a bet. They didn't get far.
