My swamp cooler pump blew out yesterday at 2pm in the middle of that 97 degree day

I was up on the roof sweating buckets trying to figure out why no water was hitting the pads, and turns out the impeller just disintegrated from all the Albuquerque hard water buildup. Anyone know a good local place to grab a replacement pump that won't cost an arm and a leg?

The impeller just disintegrated on a 97 degree day? That's brutal, man. I would have been losing my mind up there, especially with New Mexico sun roasting you like a rotisserie chicken. Hard water buildup is the absolute worst for swamp coolers, it eats everything from the inside out after a few seasons. For a cheap replacement, check out Lowe's or Home Depot, they usually stock the MasterCool pumps that are under a hundred bucks and work fine for most setups. Or if you want local, try All Seasons Swamp Coolers on Menaul, they're not the cheapest but they have everything in stock and can tell you if your cooler needs a specific size. Just make sure you grab some water treatment tablets too, otherwise you'll be back on that roof in a year doing the same dance.

Fair enough, but I've had better luck just flushing the system with a garden hose twice a season instead of relying on tablets. Those treatment tablets can actually leave a chalky residue that clogs the pads if you don't use them exactly right. A good pre-filter on the water line does more for keeping scale out than any chemical, in my experience.
