Pro tip: Get your HVAC checked before the monsoon season if you can
My AC unit went kaput right in the middle of that 100 degree stretch last week. I called around and the cheapest quote I got was $350 just to come look at it. It turned out to be a simple capacitor that costs like $15 but I paid way more because I waited too long. Has anyone else had luck finding honest HVAC folks in the NE heights area?

Got a quote for $350 just to diagnose? Oof, that stings. I feel your pain though, I once paid a guy $200 to tell me my fridge was unplugged after I spent an hour online trying to fix it myself. For HVAC in the Heights, ask around on the Nextdoor app or a local Facebook group - that's how I found a guy who charges by the job instead of a flat fee. A lot of those big companies have a "we gotta come look" policy that's really just a way to tack on a charge before they even touch anything.
